Level 0

The student does not reach a standard described by any of the descriptors given below.

Level 1-2

Limited knowledge of theory and little understanding of terms related to topic.

Limited ability to use skills and principles of art studied. Does not complete/plan work.

Minimal use of feedback and reflections upon themes and processes. Struggles with self-evaluation.

Participates to some extent in activity but shows little interest and engagement in work.

Level 3-4

Basic knowledge of theory and some understanding of art terms.

Basic ability to use skills and principles of art studied. Seldom completes/plans work.

Has difficulties using feedback and reflections. Produces a self-evaluation, but it is unrealistic or incomplete.

Participates in activity and shows some self-discipline and motivation in work.

Level 5-6

Broad understanding of topic and applies theory and terms correctly.

Shows competence in the ability to use skills and principles of art studied. Often completes/plans work. Work shows some creativity.

Reflects on themes and issues and takes feedback into account. Provides an evaluation of their development and process that identifies areas of improvement.

Fully engaged in work, showing a willingness to develop potential further.

Level 7-8

Thorough understanding of topic and confidently applies theory and terms to analyze and interpret artwork.

Shows confidence when applying skills and principles of art studied. Regularly completes/plans and organizes work. Work shows creativity.

Is thorough when using feedback and reflections. Evaluation includes accurate analysis of work and describes areas of improvement in detail.

High level of interest and engagement, showing initiative, enthusiasm and commitment.

Level 9-10

 

Highly competent in choosing and applying all skills and principles of art studied. Always completes/plans work. Work shows a high level of creativity.
