Hettie Tinsley

Language A - MYP/DP English & Theory of Knowledge

Hettie Tinsley was born and trained as a teacher in the UK before making her home in Adelaide, South Australia (when she has the time to be there!) Her background includes a focus on curriculum development and gifted education, with an MA in English Literature. She has been in international education throughout her career, which spans primary to teacher training across 10 countries. She has chiefly been an IB diploma teacher and administrator, with leadership roles in both hemispheres of the planet. She has wide experience in DP Language A Higher and Standard Level and has reached the level of Senior Examiner in Theory of Knowledge. She has also assisted schools in their self-monitoring through CIS accreditation visits, and retains a commitment to a mentoring role in regard to how teachers develop their skills . Perhaps the most significant insight she has into what IB means and what students can achieve, however, comes from being an IB parent to two sons who thrived on the experience. As typical Third Culture Kids, they continue to commit to the learner profile and have taken IB goals beyond schooling. One now lives in Australia and one in USA. Hettie loves opera, bushwalking and cricket, so she knows she will enjoy a lot of what this lovely country offers. She is eager to learn more of its history through the school community.
