Level 0

The student does not reach a standard described by any of the descriptors given below.

Level 1-2

Uses knowledge when solving simple problems in familiar contexts.

Recognizes simple patterns with guidance.

Most notation is incomplete or incorrect. Most working is not shown. Most steps are missing.

Attempts to explain the results in the context of the problem and/or to make real life connections.

Level 3-4

Uses knowledge when solving more complex problems in familiar contexts.

Recognizes simple patterns and suggests some rules with some guidance.

Some notation is incomplete or incorrect. Some working is not shown. Some steps are missing.

Correctly but briefly explains the results in the context of the problem and/or makes real life connections. Attempts to justify the degree of accuracy of the results where appropriate.

Level 5-6

Uses knowledge when solving challenging problems in familiar contexts.

Recognizes patterns, suggests general rules and draws conclusions consistent with findings. May need guidance.

All notation is complete or correct. All working is shown. No steps are missing.

Critically explains the results in the context of the problem and /or makes detailed real life connections. Attempts to justify the degree of accuracy of the results where appropriate. Suggests improvements to the method when necessary

Level 7-8

Uses knowledge when solving challenging and unfamiliar problems.

Recognizes patterns, suggests general rules and draws conclusions. Conclusions are consistent with findings and provide proof.
